Program 5S adalah usaha keseluruhan organisasi bagi menjadikan tempat kerja bersih, tersusun dan bersistem. Melalui amalan 5S, kita akan membina disiplin dan etika kerja yang baik di kalangan warga kerja yang akan menghasilkan prestasi kerja yang lebih baik, kerja berkualiti, memupuk semangat berpasukan dan tolong-menolong yang tinggi.
Amalan 5S juga merupakan teknik yang paling berkesan bagi mewujudkan budaya peningkatan secara berterusan atau dikenali sebagai ‘Kaizen’ dalam Bahasa Jepun.
Perbadanan Produktiviti Negara ( MPC) merupakan antara jururunding kepada organisasi yang berminat melaksanakan Program 5S di negara ini.

5S Bakal Jadi "The Fastest Growing Quality Tool In Malaysia"!
Dengan kemunculan pelopor-pelopor 5S yang secara berterusan mengekalkan sistem Amalan 5S di organisasi masing-masing di banyak negeri di Malaysia, membuatkan bilangan organisasi yang sudah berjaya mendapatkan persijilan 5S meningkat mendadak. Di Perak organisasi kerajaan iaitu IKM Lumut menjadi tempat penandaarasan. Manakala di Kelantan pula di Majlis Bandaraya Islam Kota Bahru. Putrajaya pula menjadi spot penandaarasan 5S mulai tahun 2008 apabila Pusat Infrastruktur Data Geospatial negara (MaCGDI) di Presint 4 berjaya menjadi organisasi pertama mendapat persijilan 5S dan memenangi Anugerah Kebangsaan di Putrajaya. Di Malaysia Timur iaitu Sabah dan Sarawak juga tidak ketinggalan. Baitulmal Sarawak merupakan Champion Anugerah Kebangsaan 5S anjuran MPC tahun 2009. Pejabat persekutuan Sabah dan JUPEM Sabah menjadi tempat dilawati oleh organisasi yang ingin mengetahui lebih lanjut tentang 5S. Labuan juga mempunyai organisasi terkenal dengan Amalan Mantap 5Snya iaitu di JUPEM Labuan.

Amalan 5S selaras tuntutan Islam
..Ketika berucap di majlis itu beliau berkata, konsep 5S bertepatan dengan Islam walaupun bermula di Jepun, di mana ia merupakan falsafah perkhidmatan rakyat negara itu yang mengamalkan disiplin diri tinggi.
"Kita sebagai umat Islam haruslah istiqamah menggunakan pendekatan tersebut tanpa mengabaikan taqwa yang menjadi kekuatan dalam badan kita.
"Amalan 5S dipraktik bagi mengemaskini segala urusan di pejabat membabitkan seluruh aspek. Ketika berada di pejabat janganlah kita menganggap seperti berada di tempat lain sehingga tiada komunikasi di antara pegawai dan kakitangan," katanya.
Menurutnya Amalan 5S selaras dengan dasar Membangun Bersama Islam yang digunapakai Kerajaan Kelantan meliputi Ubudiyyah, Mas-uuliyyah dan Itqan.

5S Activity In Thailand
To develop discipline in Thai youth who are regarded the development foundation of the country in the future; PTT has chosen to promote 5S, a basic ground of quality and environment activities, in the school children. To achieve such objectives, PTT organizes several activities; for instance, the training on 5S management, the instruction on how to organize a Big Cleaning Day in addition to providing cleaning equipments, garbage bins to the schools. PTT pays a visit to participating schools and holds annual teachers seminar allowing the schools to visit PTT office. Supplementary projects related to environment have also been introduced. Organic vegetable and herb planting are some examples of the projects. These activities are planned for the school surrounding PTT’s offices around the country.
The schools which apply 5S in their daily practice in an efficient manner and won the first prize in the 5S Contest of PTT for three consecutive years, will be promoted to be “5S School Promotion Center. more

5S perlu diserapkan di peringkat sekolah
Usaha menerapkan 5S di peringkat sekolah-sekolah di Malaysia telah pun di buat beberapa tahun yang lalu. Namun ianya tidak dibuat secara serious dan tidak juga berterusan. Dari sedikit kajian yang sempat dibuat mendapati negara-negara seperti Thailand dan India jauh terkedepan dalam usaha menerapkan 5S di peringkat sekolah.

CATCHING them young, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has decided to expose the school children with the Japanese mantra of `5S' - Seiri (sorting out), Seiton (systematic arrangement), Seiso (spic and span), Seiketsu (standardisation) and Shitsuke (self-discipline) - giving them a time-tested methodology to achieve workplace excellence.
"Catch-them-young principle can't just be restricted to sports. A workplace need not be a shop floor in a factory or an office in organisation. It could be a classroom in a school," Mr Satish Reddy, Chairman of CII (AP), and CEO of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, said.
Addressing a workshop on `5S' for schools here, he said the effort was part of CII's social responsibility initiatives. "Children inculcate good habits and mould their personalities at schools. It is imperative to equip them with the best management schools," he said.
Giving an overview of the `5S' concept, Mr K.S. Madhavan, Chairman of Shingo Institute of Japanese Management, said it aimed at creating orientation towards perfection. "The Japanese mantra has been used by many countries and achieved good results. We, in India, do have a lot of interest in knowledge but not so interested in its application," he said.
A 5S workplace is a work environment that is self-explaining, self-ordering, self-regulating and self-improving — where, what is supposed to happen does happen on time, every time, day or night. It envisages a collective effort in both analysing the problem and arriving at a solution.
"We tend to have two standards - one for home and the other for outside. This should change," he said. "Insensitivity to poor environment and shifting the burden of maintenance to others is a common phenomenon where as we can start working on sorting out the problems."
A number of children from about 15 major schools have participated in the workshop.
